I could describe my work as "Fragments of Walls", ideal masonry that expels a part of itself. This is in fact where the idea began. I would describe my technique as a variation from the fresco in that I begin by preparing a wood surface over which I apply a blend of various plasters in different layers. It is the last layer, while still wet, on which I carve my lines. The basic theme of my work is to maintain the design of my images on the level of sketches. My intent is to give the gestures of my lines the optimal level of spontaneity, just like the masters of the renaissance who quickly drew their desired lines to verify their composition before starting the fresco. The "sinopia" (the particular moment before the execution of the fresco itself) was considered the purest, most spontaneous and therefore the most essential act of creativity. As for materials, I use the purest natural pigment and fresco waxes as finishes. |
